Kindness Commitment Friday #6

For anybody just tuning in, I post a kindness story and update every Friday as my part of The Kindness Commitment Challenge. I personally think that making a concious effort to be nice will benefit ourselves and others alike. Please feel free to add your random act of kindness in the comment section every week – it’s great for inspiration and makes for happy Friday reading as well!

This Week’s Story from the World

This is the most moving thing – a first-hand account of the protests in Egypt from a fellow blogger, Forst from the Frugal Zeitgeist.

The revolution that I experienced (and am now glued to through Al Jazeera, Skype, BBC, CNN, Facebook, Twitter and more)  was a scary but amazing experience.

On the first night we went to the protests and ended up hiding in a building whilst secret police searched it. We slipped out in the morning and luckily avoided a serious beating. Our area was looted and some of the looters caught turned out to be police with orders from the government to cause destruction. We spent nights with a table barricading a door, kept awake by gun shots while vigilanties protected our streets outside.

We expecienced intense respect and love between people who have finally risen up despite the odds against 30+ years of repression and living on unlivable wages under emergency laws.

I am not religious but seeing groups of muslims praying while Christians make a circle to protect them to thugs and then seeing that gesture reciprocated showed me that despite the fears pushed upon us by governments and fear mongerers people’s love and respect towards each other is more than alive.

That last part really made me tear up.  That’s the world I’m proud of…

My Personal Update

This week has been great but I think I’ve been on the receiving end of kindness more than the giving.  I’ve been blown away by the donated contributions my fellow bloggers have been making to my first blogoversary giveaway over at Budgeting in the Fun Stuff that goes live February 21st.  I was also given the best customer service at CVS on Monday while I was almost too sick to think…the lady was just so nice and I left with the meds I needed without having to read much, which was nice since my head was so stuffy.  Thank you world for a pretty great week!

How did you do this week? Build any good karma? Have any ideas for us in the future?
