Weekly Kindness Update 12

For anybody just tuning in, I post a kindness update every Friday as my part of The Kindness Commitment Challenge. I personally think that making a concious effort to be nice will benefit ourselves and others alike. Please add your random act of kindness in the comment section every week – it’s great for inspiration and makes for happy Friday reading as well!

This Week’s Update

I was feeling pretty happy this morning and brought donuts for my department today.  I’m also cooking dinner for my husband and our friend who is barely making ends meet tonight.  Maybe we will talk him into going to see Harry Potter with us too (our treat of course).  :-)

How did you do this week? Build any good karma? Have any ideas for us in the future?

  • I made our school aware of a grant my company is sponsoring. I’m also on my company’s volunteer board. So I will do my best to influence education spending. That’s about it. I’ve kind of been in a funk this week. Hopefully next week will be better.

  • I just gave a dollar to a homeless guy who was freezing outside. I see this guy at least once a week, in the same area downtown near where I work. However, this day was 7 degrees. Yep, not like the weather down in Texas where you guys are….it was 7 whole degrees. And windy. And absolutely, bitterly cold.

Given all this, seeing the guy wearing a jacket which couldn’t possibly be helping much, I gave him $1. Yes, it’s a meager donation (maybe hot tea or something would have been better), but at least it’s something. He said thank you, you’re the first person that has given me anything today. That sucked to hear that, for his sake!

I hope the guy does ok this week, it’s not getting out of the 20′s all week here.

  • @First Gen American, I’m hoping I come up with something great by Friday too, lol.

@Squirrelers, any donation is nice. It’s sad that you were the first one. Maybe you can bring him a hot lunch or something this week and have a new update for us this Friday. :-)

7 degrees is too dang cold. I do appreciate Houston’s 30-55 degree winters, lol.
